Vista’s Hard Drive Tweak

Posted by Torvinen Eric

Ever since I first installed Vista on my laptop, I noticed that the hard drive light just stayed on and at the same time the vista was very sluggish.

There are 2 steps to reslove this issue:

1. Set Vista virtural memory to 800MB
2. Stop and Disable the “superfetch” service

Once you completed, you will notice that vista would be more responisve.

What is the superfetch is for? Is it important?

Quoted from microsoft.com:

SuperFetch monitors which applications you use the most and preloads these into your system memory so they’ll be ready when you need them. Windows Vista also runs background programs, like disk defragmenting and Windows Defender, at low priority so that they can do their job but your work always comes first.

Is it important? NO!

If you do turn it off just remember to run defrag your self every now and then.
